There’s an ENGLISH version
For example, we girls use the word “kawaii” (cute) a lot, and I myself often use this expression incautiously. We say this is cute and that is cute, but what we each mean by “cute” is quite a bit different each time. (…)
We lump everything together as “cute.” But if you analyze it closely, each “cute” is different.

hello Tumblr guess what came in the mail today :)

Seriously, the latest map I unlocked has you face off against a giant enemy tank. The tank has three weak spots, all of which you have to destroy, and all of them take 4 shots from one of your lancers.
(Lancers only have three slots of ammo and recover one ammo per round, plus you can only shoot once per move and you have a limited amount of moves per round.)
The weak spots only appear when the enemy tank decides to use its main cannon, which will be maybe once every three rounds. Additionally, the tank has 5 gatling guns on all its sides which can very quickly kill your units if you’re not careful.
Now, I managed to slowly work my way through the map, finishing off two of the tank’s weak spots in 7 rounds. I had everything set up to destroy the last weak spot in the 8th round….
But the tank decided to not use its main cannon that round, and instead a plot event spawned some enemy reinforcements right behind the main bulk of my army. The reinforcements were lead by the super cool plot important valkyrie lady with magical guns who proceeded to waltz through the map and one-shot every single one of my units in one round.
Man, I’ve been trying to clear out my video game backlog lately, and I’m good for the most part.
One of my few remaining backlog games is Valkyria Chronicles, which I’ve owned since I got my PS3 two years ago, and still haven’t finished.
So I decided to give it a go. I love this game. It’s got a unique, good looking visual style, the story’s kind of silly anime but the characters are fun and relatable. The gameplay, however…
It’s INCREDIBLY fun to play, strategy game/tps mix. You control your units individually and run them across fields to shoot enemies in the face. Fun and unique.
But the game on the whole is just… Slow. Menus are slow, every time you try and adjust your squad or gear or what have you you’re slowed down by a couple of lines from NPCs that come up every time and have to load and show the animation and portrait. A single round of combat on a map can take up to 10 minutes due to the nature of the gameplay, and the game expects you to spend around 10 rounds per map.
To add to this, going into a map the first time you have no clue what you’re getting into. The visual guide in the placement phase, where you’re supposed to position your units strategically, is worthless and provides next to no indication as to what you’re actually expected to be doing in the map. You often have to replay a map several times before beating it just to actually get an idea of what the hell is going on in it.
And as if that’s not enough, the game likes to throw surprises on you in the form of enemy reinforcements halfway through the map, usually when you’ve already spent 5 rounds and 30 minutes in there. Surprises are nice, it adds another level of strategy, but the enemy reinforcements are almost never foreshadowed and you end up just straight out getting ambushed out of nowhere and having all your units killed when you were one round away from completing the map objective.
It’s so frustrating and ugh I really want to love this game but it’s really hard when it takes me two hours of hard work just to clear one single map. It’s so tedious.
